E-Commerce — Frequently Asked Questions

E-Commerce · MK2 Creative

Common questions about e-commerce store setup, Lightspeed eCommerce, Ecwid migration, Shopify, Google Shopping, and online store management. MK2 Creative builds and manages online stores for businesses across Australia, the UK, and globally.

What e-commerce platforms do you work with?

MK2 Creative specialises in Lightspeed eCommerce (formerly Ecwid) and Shopify. We work with retail businesses that need their online store connected to a physical point-of-sale system, as well as businesses selling purely online. We recommend the right platform based on your products, your existing systems, and how you actually operate — not what's easiest for us to build.

What is Lightspeed eCommerce and how does it relate to Ecwid?

Lightspeed eCommerce — also known as Lightspeed eCom — is the online store platform built into the Lightspeed ecosystem. It was originally launched as Ecwid, a standalone e-commerce platform that still carries strong brand recognition. Lightspeed acquired Ecwid in 2021 and has been integrating it as the online store component of their platform. If you're on Ecwid, you're effectively already in the Lightspeed eCom ecosystem.

What happened to my Ecwid store — do I need to migrate?

Ecwid stores continue to operate, but Lightspeed is progressively migrating merchants to the full Lightspeed eCom platform. If you're on Ecwid and haven't yet been prompted to migrate, you will be. MK2 Creative can manage this migration end-to-end — carrying across product data, customer records, order history, and existing URLs — with minimal disruption to your business.

How does Lightspeed eCom compare to Shopify?

Shopify is a strong general-purpose platform suited to businesses selling primarily online. Lightspeed eCom is purpose-built for retail businesses that also operate physical stores — its key advantage is native inventory synchronisation with Lightspeed POS, keeping stock, product data, and customer records aligned across in-store and online channels automatically. For businesses without a physical store, Shopify is often the more straightforward choice. We'll give you an honest recommendation based on your situation.

Can you migrate my store from Shopify or Ecwid to Lightspeed eCom?

Yes. We handle migrations from Shopify, Ecwid, Magento, and other platforms to Lightspeed eCom — including product data, categories, customer records, and order history. We also manage SEO continuity throughout, mapping existing URLs and implementing redirects to protect your organic search rankings during the transition.

How long does an e-commerce store build or migration take?

A new Lightspeed eCom store typically takes 4–6 weeks from brief to launch. Shopify builds vary depending on theme complexity and catalogue size — typically 4–8 weeks. Migrations from Ecwid or Shopify add time depending on data volume and quality. We provide a clear project timeline after reviewing your current setup.

What does an e-commerce implementation include?

Our standard implementation covers store configuration, theme setup, product catalogue import and category structure, payment gateway integration, shipping rule configuration, tax setup, Google Merchant Centre connection, GA4 e-commerce tracking via Google Tag Manager, and staff training. For Lightspeed eCom specifically, we also configure inventory synchronisation with your Lightspeed POS system.

How does inventory sync work with Lightspeed POS?

When Lightspeed POS and eCom are connected, stock levels update automatically across both systems whenever a sale is made — in-store or online. A product sold in your physical store is immediately deducted from your online inventory, preventing overselling. Product data, pricing, and categories are managed centrally through the POS and pushed to the online store, eliminating duplicate data entry.

What payment gateways do you configure?

For Lightspeed eCom we configure Lightspeed Payments, Stripe, PayPal, and Afterpay for Australian clients. For Shopify stores we configure Shopify Payments, Stripe, PayPal, and Afterpay. For UK clients on either platform we configure Klarna and other regional options. All payment configurations are tested end-to-end before go-live.

Can you set up Google Shopping for our online store?

Yes — for both Lightspeed eCom and Shopify stores. We connect your store to Google Merchant Centre, configure and maintain the product feed, and manage ongoing Google Shopping campaigns via Google Ads. Shopping is one of the highest-ROI channels for product-based businesses, and we manage the full setup and ongoing optimisation as part of our e-commerce service.

Do you provide ongoing store management after launch?

Yes. Many e-commerce clients retain MK2 Creative for ongoing store management — product and catalogue updates, promotional configuration, seasonal campaigns, Google Merchant Centre maintenance, and monthly performance reporting. We work with both Lightspeed eCom and Shopify stores on an ongoing basis and become an extension of your team rather than a one-off supplier.

How does an online store connect to AI visibility?

Customers increasingly ask AI tools for product and supplier recommendations before visiting a store or searching Google. Our AIQO approach for e-commerce focuses on ensuring your store's product categories, brand, and expertise are cited in AI-generated responses — through structured FAQ content, schema markup, and llms.txt configuration that helps AI systems understand what you sell and why you're worth recommending.
