The basics of SEO - A road map

You have a great brand, identity, and social media presence. Your creative strategy is on-point, and all you want to do is provide the world with an amazing product and/or service. A website with excellent SEO is your next step. But first you need to learn the basics of SEO (Search engine optimisation). It can, and should, enable the minute alterations to your website's written content to (a) increase a positive user experience and (b) make sure it appears in search engines. What are some basic, yet effective, ways to boost search engine optimisation? Well, we are glad you asked:

1. Complete a keyword search

Google Keyword Planner, and other SEO tools which assist you in discovering the highest-ranking and yielding vocabulary, are your new best friends. You must accustom yourself with the words your customers are using when trying to find your service or product on the web.

2. Think about headings and subheadings

When you are composing your outline, ensure to use words that were discovered in your keyword search planner, or words that accurately describe the site's content. Allocating titles to bodies of text which are irrelevant or not closely linked can be a dire mistake.

3. Get your meta descriptions right

Meta descriptions are short sections of writing which outline a web page's content and appear in the page's source code. There are no hard rules surrounding the optimal size of a meta description, but Google generally shortens snippets to 155–160 characters. You'll need to make sure you're outlining the page's content using words that are, again, accurate and provoke interest within the reader.

4. Compatibility across different devices

Search engines do take into consideration the extent to which your website design is responsive to different devices. Always ensure that your website design is compatible with both mobiles and computers.

5. Internal linking

Encouraging traffic to different pages and areas of your website can be facilitated by the use of internal links. As you can see from this previous sentence, internal linking generates traffic on your website while creating a user-friendly experience. SEO can be a phenomenal tool at your disposal, but you need to understand how to use it. Contact us at Mark2Creative to learn more.
